High Definition Antenna
High Definition Antenna is a type of antenna which is used for receiving high definition television (HDTV) broadcasts. HDTV is the newest way to watch TV. It has movie-theater picture quality. That’s why many people love it. If you have HDTV or going to buy a new one, you must check the built in high definition tuner or receiver. It’s important since you can’t view HDTV broadcasts no matter what type of high definition antenna you are using. An external receiver or tuner can be added to your TV. This device is usually called a set top box
The built in or external tuner or receiver then must be connected to high definition antenna to pick up HD television broadcast. You may be able to use an existing good VHF/UHF antennas. A hdtv antenna is similar to a basic or analog television antenna.
High Definition Antenna Types
There are two type of hd antenna: outdoor and indoor. Indoor antenna is smaller and easier to install rather than outdoor and used in residence that has no private property to install outdoor antenna, such as apartments. However, the range of a high definition indoor antenna is limited therefore you may need amplifier to get better signal quality and pickup further stations. If you are living fairly close to a broadcasting tower then your hdtv antenna does not need to be amplified.
The amplified indoor hd antenna has improved gain above the standard type. Though picture reception is clear, it will not have as wide a range of reception. This could mean that for a certain channel it will be excellent but if you will probably have to fiddle the hdtv antenna when altering channels to re-establish a good reception. Therefore the best option is high definition outdoor antenna.
There are two type of outdoor high definition antenna directivity: Directional and Omni-directional antenna.
Directional antennas is the best choice if the HD signal is weak or the broadcasting tower is far away because these type of antennas like amplified antennas that have a greater range of reception in a definite direction.
Omni or multi-directional, on the contrary, is good in areas close to a broadcasting station. This antenna type receives signal from all directions.
The most popular outdoor hd antenna is the medium directional antenna because it has characteristics that prevent or reduce interference and not too large.
There is few design of high definition antenna which allows outdoor reception without having to get on the roof. One of kind antennas is the Terk HD-TVS slim profile high definition antenna which you can install on a balcony, outdoor wall, railing, on the roof or in the attic and you still get excellent high definition TV picture.
Anyway, you will get optimal reception if you can remove all or as much interference as possible between the transmitter and your high definition antenna.
When you are ready to get high definition broadcast, next you have to choose the service that are right for you. Over-the-air service is the cheapest type of HDTV service.
